Behind the name

Why we’re called Lindy Studio

Names carry intent. But we also know how easy it is for ideology to drift into lofty territory. So we began with a grounding principle: the name had to pass the down-to-earth New Zealander test.

The down-to-earth New Zealander test

  • Would wear it on a T-shirt
  • Would print it on a coffee cup
  • Doesn’t describe a product
  • Would happily hang the words on a studio wall
  • Feels natural to mention at a cocktail party

We kept workshopping the name until it cleared that bar. In the end, we chose two words that reflect both our process and our belief.

Studio
We call ourselves a studio because it evokes a place where skilled, dedicated people come together to create, where curiosity, integrity, and craftsmanship shape every detail. A place where beautiful things are made with care.

Lindy
The prefix Lindy signals our commitment to longevity. The term comes from the Lindy Effect, which suggests that the longer something has lasted, the more likely it is to endure. It’s also an insider term, recognized by those who value durability, timelessness, and cultural resilience.

Living up to the name

Lindy Studio sounded like a place where future heirlooms could be born. But the name also sets a challenge.

To live up to it, we need to approach Lindy with rigour, studying and deconstructing what makes certain products lindy, so we can design for lindy-ness from the start.
